Sign to Oppose SB 137 and Protect Home Rule for Ohio Communities

Regardless of how local leaders feel about Ranked Choice Voting, we are opposed to SB 137's violation of Local Home Rule. Ohio localities should be allowed to decide for themselves if RCV or other election methods are more appropriate for our communities than pick-one, plurality-wins elections. Big government should not unfairly punish communities if we choose to achieve majority rule through RCV or other means. Please sign below to protect Ohio communities' right to Home Rule.

    Hello,

I am the OSU Graduate Student Council Senator to the University Area Commission and I appose SB 137. Passing this bill will restrict voting rights in Ohio and limit the ability for communities to decide how they want to hold their elections.

MAKE POLITICIANS EARN OUR VOTES AGAIN.

For too long this state has been plagued by bad faith representatives who promptly disregard the will of their constituents as soon as they are elected. JD Vance turning his back on East Palestine by making massive concessions to the railroad companies is a recent example.

We as a state and country need to move beyond this failing two-party system. Ranked Choice Voting allows us to vote for WHO WE WANT to represent us, without feeling like we must choose the lesser of two evils or risk “wasting” our vote on candidates that better represent our ideals. OH Legislature’s attempts to ban this should be a glaring red flag that they are trying to consolidate their power and silence the will of the people.

The attempt to outlaw ranked choice voting is an attempt to restrict the rights of Ohio citizens to make their own choice on how political representatives are selected. Citizens may vote for or against RCV but it is our right and duty to determine how and who we choose to represent our interests. Politicians who try to restrict voting or mandate what citizens cannot vote on are simply not to be tolerated.

Ranked Choice Voting is common-sense good governance. Statehouse politicians benefit personally from our current hyper-polarized system, and like the failure that was Issue 1, they are trying to restrict the voice of the people in government.
